Sons of the Void are an experimental rock band attempting to marry the beauty of the pop song with the magical elixir of other-world modalities. In the 1960's, there was an explosion of new ideas from the UK and the US. These new ideas were synthesized into a music most typified by the Pink Floyd in London, and The Velvet Underground in New York. This sonic explosion was closely connected to an exploratory need in the heart of the contemporary western art communities, a need that compelled musicians to reach beyond obvious song structures and into abstraction. Melody could be married to stranger sounds creating revelatory possibilities in the mind. Connecting the dots between the world of the senses and the hidden world beyond the senses' reach became a primary goal. Chemicals catalyzed these movements. This hidden world was laid bare by powerful psychotomimetic and hallucinogenic drugs that had become available to artists of the time. Rock and Roll, a primal force that was never forgotten in the haze of experimentation, remained a powerful ingredient in this new music, giving a driving and pulsing rhythm supporting a frightening and blissful journey into the mind, inner space itself was now accessible. These pioneers never forgot their first love, the shattering voice of Screamin' Jay Hawkins, and the sugary sweet chills of the Ronettes. The pop song remained an archetype, and beautiful melodies were a highly euphoric ingredient. The mission did not end in the sixties, it continues and is as relevant as it ever was, to our newly discovered consciousness. Sons of the Void are humbly following up and hoping to add to the collective bliss discovered by the original pioneers.
